After a series of unfortunate events the team was unable to compete in the 24hrs of Daytona, quickly after this the decisions to change focus towards Sebring was made. Cars were tested and arguments were had. The final choice for car was the Ferrari 488 GTE. Reece O'Sullivan, Nathan Whiteley, Joakim Braun and Tomasz Oliwiak would all be sharing the car for the race. Practice showed a decent pace after drivers iRating was taking into consideration, nothing abnormal but competitive none the less. Minor difficulties were had before the race even started due to not every driver being present, this would luckily resolve itself 10 minutes before signups closed and everything was on track. Reece was set to qualify the car as he would be starting but a unfortunate misclick by Joakim would change this. Joakim qualified the car in 16th position. Race started with Reece driving. First hour was fairly calm all things considered with 2 minor incidents. Pace was solid and the car was in 6th position as we entered the pits for the first stop. Car left the pits in 7th position with 3 cars not far ahead. A couple of laps in we had caught 6th and passed him. This trend continued and Reece made his way into 4th and quickly began pulling away from 5th position. From this point onward the race wasn't too eventful until we were 40 minutes into the 2nd stint. Lapped traffic and overtakes for position had been dealt with in a sensible manor up until this point. Coming into sunset bend Reece was caught of guard by a backmaker and needed to make a last second swerve to avoid running into the other car. This would upset the car leading to a spin. The car was then shortly after collected by another backmarker. Damage was checked and nothing seemed like a problem apart from the engine which was now down on power and smoking slightly. The rest of the car was essentially ok with aero undamaged and all the wheels still in their correct positions. The lack of power quickly became worse as the car continued. Half a lap after the incident the engine gave up just after Bishop corner. Car was towed and we had to sit 45 minutes in the pits whilst the engine was fixed. Repairs meant we would drop 21 laps of the leader. The boys kept going with Joakim taking over once repairs were completed. Car was now 47th in the field multiple laps behind racing anyone for position. Car was driven to the end with Joakim, Reece, Tomasz and Nathan all taking turns doing their part to get the car to the finish. The team would end the race in 34th position 24 laps behind the winner.
Overall the race was a good experience, the result was disappointing but the pace was good and the car did belong in the top 5. Unfortunately things happen and not everything can go our way. A lot was learned and we will take the positives from the race with us going into Le Mans.
